TEMECULA, CA – After 72 hours
of painting more than 80 murals and 500 smaller art pieces, the top artists of the 2011 Street Painting and Plein Air Festival were announced Sunday evening.
Cecelia Linayao, of San Diego, took
the top Street Painting Festival honors for her rendition of Elizabeth Taylor, a predominantly monochromatic piece that highlighted Taylor's beautiful violet eyes. The Best of Show award is chosen by
the artists at the event.
People's Choice, a vote opened
to the entire public and the artists, was awarded Colin Moyer and Connie Megnin for their black and white painting of an elephant. Moyer is from Temecula. Both Moyer and Linayao
worked until Midnight on Saturday, June 25th in order to finish their pieces by 3 p.m. Sunday.
The top prize for Plein Air
competition went to Jack Raglan of Fallbrook. His piece was of Temecula's City Hall at sunset. The $500 cash prize is also a purchase award, meaning that the piece will be on display at city hall and
become a part of the city's permanent art collection.
Additional street painting awards
were: Best Youth, Diniana Piekutowski of Temecula for her rendition of "Chief Joseph - Treat all men alike;" Best Black and White, Shawndell Pickard, Wildomar, for her Cameo; Best
